Dover Dive

Dover, Kent   Whats Happening
Dover has been Englands main cross-Channel port for nearly 2000 years , so with this being said it must have a fare bit of interest to us divers under the waves! As part of the 2005 Day dives we have got together with a charter boat company who sail from Dover harbour and are willing to take us divers to places of interest.

This being the first Day Dive of 2005 the skipper has given me an itinerary to partake in 2 dives on the Loanda which was built 1891 and sank 31 May 1908, weighed 2702 tons and was 328 ft long,39 ft beam, 22 ft draught.

What We Should See
Hopefully if the vis is good we should get a good view of the wreck, and may see some of its cargo which was clay pipes (the smoking kind), perfume bottles and bottles of booze(not drinkable) .

What Do You Need
Your own Scuba gear (or hire it from Diving Unlimited)
Tanks (1 the skipper will fill for a small donation to the RNLI)
Lunch (or money for lunch as we will be back in port between dives(the skipper sometimes supplies this ))
Car park money (Pay and display)
Surface Marker Buoy (between a buddy pair)
Torch (as you never know)

When do you need to be there
The tides are looking good and the skipper has confirmed a leave time (that’s the harbour) at 10:00 so we should be at the site and in the water for 11:30ish. We will then return to the marina for a spot of lunch and air fills and then head back out to site for the second dive.

How do you get there
By Car Dover is located at the end on the A20/A2, you can get there down the M20 then on to the A20 at Folkestone or following the M2 then on to the A2 . Once in Dover follow the signs for the Marina then look for the car park next to the marina office (don’t go across the blue swing bridge).

Dover, Kent   Drop your equipment at the slip by the Marina office and park in the pay and display carpark (£4.00 for the day). Then back to the slip where the Taurus will be waiting.
